Tip of the Week – A quick life hack to enhance your Salesforce experience

Love your monitor

I don’t know about you, but I hate having to scroll around a web page. When you’re working like crazy to meet a deadline, you don’t have time to scroll down and find that hidden field or related list. You need to see everything right in front of you (or with a quick mouse-over when necessary) so that you can make the right decision and move on to the next item. In Salesforce, I tend to try and keep my page layouts as sparse as possible and only add the fields and sections I absolutely need to keep scrolling to a minimum. But try as you might, if you have a complex system and a lot of information to track, you might not be able to avoid running below the load screen. Wouldn’t it be great if you could stretch your monitor vertically a bit to get more on the page at once? Well, you can!

This week’s tip is a bit different from our usual. Instead of giving you a clever trick in Salesforce to help you out of a bind, let me instead change your perspective, specifically from landscape to portrait. Sure your nice wide-screen monitor is meant to sit horizontally on your desk, but who says that’s the only way? There are monitor stands on the market meant for a vertical display, and with a few quick tweaks to your display settings, you can be up and running in no time with more screen real estate than you ever dreamed of! This is an especially effective use of a second monitor. It’s like reading your favorite blog on a really, really big iPad. Now, you’ll see more fields, and maybe even your related lists without ever having to scroll! I love using a vertical monitor, but if you want to really go all out, check out this awesome setup! Once you see it, you might want to call IT and see what they can do for you!
