Tip of the Week – Overriding Tabs and Pages in Salesforce

Tip of the Week – Overriding Tabs and Pages in Salesforce

Today’s tip comes courtesy of a recent client question that yielded great results. Specifically, the question came up, “what do I do if I want to override the default page for the Opportunities Tab?” The solution here comes in two parts.

First, you need to create the custom Visualforce Page that will be used to replace the default home page. This will probably be the tough, time consuming part as you need to build out your Apex code to make the page. However, once that is done, the second step is quick and painless. Simply, go to Setup –> Customize –> Opportunities –> Buttons and Links –> Then Edit link next to the Opportunity tab. Upload your custom page and that’s it! This procedure can be used to edit and customize any tab or page within Salesforce.

Tip of the Week – Use Custom Buttons to Save Your Sales Team Time

Tip of the Week – Use Custom Buttons to Save Your Sales Team Time

Speed and efficiency are essential for just about everyone using Salesforce. Whether you are pursuing a new sale or just trying to get back to a client, you need to move quickly and not get bogged down with multiple records and manually populating fields. Keeping logs of calls is a common practice that, while important for metrics and historical knowledge, can be a little inefficient. However, we have a solution for that! All you have to do is use the following URL hack as an example to create a custom button that will automatically create a “Left Message” task record with the information you need pre-populated.

/00T/e?followup=1&title=Call&retURL=%2F{!Lead.Id}&who_id={!Lead.Id}&what_id={!Lead.Id}&tsk5=Left+VoiceMail&tsk6=Left+a+voicemail+for+{!Lead.Name}&tsk5_fu=FU+VM+w+{!Lead.Name}+from+{!Lead.Company}&tsk4_fu={!TODAY()+2}

For a step by step guide on creating custom buttons using URL hacks, click here! Just follow those steps, using the new code above and streamline your process!

Tip of the Week – Improve your sales numbers with one custom Salesforce field

Tip of the Week – Improve your sales numbers with one custom Salesforce field

Your business relies on sales. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than closing that Opportunity, but not every sale is won. You have a great sales team, but it is still important to understand why a deal doesn’t close so that you can learn and improve your process going forward. You may discuss why a deal doesn’t close, but if that information isn’t being stored somewhere, it isn’t going to help much.

The solution for this is simple and quick. All you need to do is create a new picklist field on Opportunities and/or Leads labeled “Reason Lost”. Find out the most common reasons for lost deals from your team and make sure they are represented in the picklist. You can now use this field to create Reports and Dashboards that include the new data. The longer you capture this information, the more visibility you will have into the reasons why deals don’t close, allowing your team to shift their focus to better quality deals.

Add this simple fix to your Salesforce org and watch your team’s success grow.
