A well-placed image or icon can do wonders to liven up your Salesforce org. Not only are graphics eye-catching and can make your work experience more pleasant, but they can often communicate information quicker and more effectively than text. For example, the bar images below give a handy visual indicator to represent a percentage out of 100.
While these dynamic bar graphs do take a bit of coding know-how, adding simple visual enhancements into your org is pretty quick and painless. The team at Salesforce Ben has put together a step by step guide on how to customize your org with icons and images. Take a peek at the link below:

A common issue for many Salesforce users is that they feel overwhelmed by the massive amount of information available to them. While this is certainly a good problem to have, the next question that everyone finds themselves asking is, “how can I simplify all my data, and find the most effective way to communicate it to my users or clients?”
While you could spend time drafting extremely thorough and elaborate email or presentations, chock full of data points and every significant blurb you can think of, your audience might not have the time or desire to focus on what you are showing them.
A quick and easy solution to this is creating image formulas! Image Formulas are simple graphic indicators that can be used to represent the data that resides within Salesforce. They are highly customizable and (as long as you build your formula correctly) will automatically adjust themselves to accurately represent data as it changes.
You can build graphic indicators to represent just about anything:
- the earning potential of an opportunity (if the opportunity is under $_____, then only show 1 dollar image, if it is between $_____ and $_____ show 2 dollars and if it is over $______ show a whole stack of dollars );
- the industry that is listed on a particular account (medical, legal, financial, media);
- ratings of a lead, contact, account or opportunity (EX. one two or three stars)
So how can you build these sweet little graphic helpers? Follow the links below for an easy, step by step solution.
After you find yourself comfortable with the process, the fun part really begins, where you can select your images and icons, and spice up all your reports!

Like it or not, we humans are visual beings. We rely heavily on what we see when making decisions. They used to say “a picture is worth a thousand words,” but in today’s world of TV, mobile devices, and social media, the perfect image is worth everything. You might have all the information you need to make a good deal or identify a problem account, but nothing says “go” like a green light, or “stop” like a big red flag. The team at Salesforce Labs knows this, and so they bring you the Graphics Pack!
The Graphics Pack is a collection of hundreds of icons and images available for free on the App Exchange. You can use these images to better customize your tabs, add awesome images to your records with image formula fields, add a visual component to your Visualforce pages, and just generally spruce up your Salesforce account. And with all the options, you’ll be hard pressed to find something they don’t have ready and waiting for you. Check it out on the App Exchange today and get started adding images in Salesforce!
