A business may have multiple copy machines, but a copy machine really only has one business. Copy machines are non-migratory. And the same can be said of most things at a company. But people are weird – some of us more than others – and stubbornly insist on breaking the Salesforce model by working at or with multiple businesses all the time. The “one Account to a Contact” model has been a Salesforce limitation for years, leading to many interesting work-arounds, including a pretty solid one in the Salesforce Non-Profit Starter Pack. But a new feature in Salesforce lets people be wherever they are.
New to Salesforce Summer ’16, Related Contacts allows an org to relate Contacts to multiple Accounts at once with a valuable, new, out-of-the-box solution. Contacts will still have a direct link with their primary Account, so don’t worry, ye developers of olde, your code won’t break when you enable this nifty new tool. To turn on this new feature and give your team the ability to start maintaining the many business relationships of one Contact, simply go to Setup -> Customize -> Accounts -> Account Settings and enable “Allow users to relate a contact to multiple accounts.” It’ll take a little time, but when it’s done, you’ll love this powerful new feature! Check out the release notes and video below, and give it a try today!
