Tip of the Week – Replacing URL Hacks with “Actions” for Lightning

Tip of the Week – Replacing URL Hacks with “Actions” for Lightning

With the introduction of the Lightning Experience for Salesforce, many old procedures and tricks are slowly being made obsolete. URL Hacks are one of them. You will need to update and switch your system before making the switch to Lightning. To find out how, read on!

First off, What are URL Hacks? They are buttons of formula fields, with specific URL parameters that often take users to New record pages with pre-populated values. Some examples include: Creating a new Case with pre-populated information, logging a call, or create Dynamic Reports.

With the new Lightning Experience, some of the URL hacks that administrators have relied upon are no longer supported. So what are we to do? The answer is Actions. Object Specific Actions. These Object Specific Actions do all the things the URL Hacks used to do but through a fully functional and fully supported Salesforce avenue. All the benefits without the drawbacks.

To set up Actions:

  • Go to the the “Candidate Objects” page in the Setup Menu.
  • Select the “Buttons, Links and Objects” section,
  • Click “New Action”
  • Fill out the fields to define your action and the target object
  • After saving, go back to the action menu
  • Select the “New” button under the Pre-defined Field Values section
  • Follow the steps and fill out a pre-defined field value for each of the fields you want to have pre-populate
  • Finally, Add the Actions to your page layout

That’s all it takes. Though it may be a bit of a process to build these Object Actions for each page and each layout, doing so will save your organization a lot of time in the long run and make daily tasks a breeze.

Tip of the Week – Transaction Security Policies for Salesforce help empower security experts and admins alike

Tip of the Week – Transaction Security Policies for Salesforce help empower security experts and admins alike

Nowadays, it feels like there’s a new story in the news about a major security breach or attack by hackers every day. Salesforce is notably absent from these stories, despite its popularity and pervasiveness in the business world, thanks to the strong security and controls baked into the core product. With very little effort, admins and security teams can limit logins to specific IP ranges at specific times for specific users, lock down sensitive data, enforce strong passwords which must be regularly changed, and much more. But the team at Salesforce knows that the threat of cyber-attack and misuse of data is ever-growing, and, in Spring ’16, released Transaction Security Policies to give admins and security experts even more control over the security of their Salesforce environments.

Transaction Security Policies are a new Salesforce Shield tool designed to monitor behavior in your Salesforce org in real time and take appropriate action should suspicious activity be detected. If a user tries to login from outside the country, they can be routed through a two-step verification process to prove it’s actually them. If someone tries to export thousands of Accounts without permission, the export can be blocked. If someone attempts to login from two places at once, their sessions can be immediately terminated. This cool new tool requires an add-on to Salesforce, so if this sounds right up your alley, check out Salesforce’s blog post, the release notes, and call your Salesforce AE today!

App of the Week – Rollio is Siri for Salesforce

App of the Week – Rollio is Siri for Salesforce

Data is the way of the future. This is undeniable. But data entry takes a lot of time, and if you’ve invested in an expert sales team, you cringe at the thought of them wasting all their time entering data into your CRM when they should be doing what they do best – selling. You could hire a secretary for each sales rep and a flock of data entry interns, but that costs money, takes space, and can be unrealistic and inefficient. Or you could employ a powerful, Siri-like digital personal assistant for your team. Think I’m crazy? Check out Rollio!

Rollio is a New Intelligent Salesforce Assistant. Rollio allows you to completely update Salesforce in seconds via text message or voice note. Rollio uses Artificial Intelligence to analyze what you say and automate Salesforce updating. … We’ve built Rollio with advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) abilities, so you can just speak and now Salesforce listens.

Rollio is a new app, so I can’t offer you any reviews, but it looks really cool and I’d definitely recommend checking it out today!
