App of the Week – Bring speed dial to Salesforce1 with the Lightning Speed Dial Component

App of the Week – Bring speed dial to Salesforce1 with the Lightning Speed Dial Component

We all have those numbers we call constantly. There’s mom, of course, and your significant other or best friend. In the office, there’s that support line you need when you’ve got a problem with the AC, FedEx when you need to schedule a pickup, and don’t forget that favorite restaurant you always order lunch from when you’ve got a big meeting in the conference room. Your team needs all sorts of numbers to call when important things are happening, and you probably have a spreadsheet you distribute and print out every time there’s an update. Wouldn’t it be great if you could get those updated numbers to your whole team in seconds and never have to worry that someone is still working off of the one you prepared three Christmases ago? Well, the Lightning Speed Dial Component brings the ease of speed dial to the power of Salesforce1.

Admins can configure the name, phone number, and icon in the app builder. A simple tap on the component tile and the user’s device will be directed to dial that number. Admins can setup multiple speed dial components in a page for additional numbers, the component supports any phone number formatting.

Tip of the Week – Subscribe to Reports in Salesforce and only get the numbers you need

Tip of the Week – Subscribe to Reports in Salesforce and only get the numbers you need

Last week, we shared with you some highlights from the Salesforce Spring ’15 release, and this week I’d like to focus on one of my favorite new features. If you live on the numbers, having the ability to schedule reports to come straight to your inbox every morning is a godsend. But with all the email we get every day, those scheduled reports are just one more tick in your overstuffed inbox, and since you’re getting them over and over again, you eventually just stop looking at them altogether. And that’s fine when things are in ship shape. But what happens when something changes? Will you even open the email? Will you notice there’s a problem that needs to be addressed or an exciting milestone to celebrate? Probably not…until now! Salesforce now lets you subscribe to Reports so you only get that email when there’s something important for you to see.

Subscribing to Reports is almost as easy as scheduling reports for future runs, and really takes them to the next level. First, click the new Subscribe button (if you don’t see it, talk to your administrator to get it turned on). Choose if you want to be notified every time your set conditions are met (like any time there are more than 20 new Cases or Leads) or only the first time the conditions are met (such as when your sales team has reached its annual goal – do I smell a pizza party?). Next, set the conditions to be met. Choose when the system should check those conditions – daily, weekly, or monthly. Select how you’d like to be notified – with a Salesforce1 notification, a Chatter post, an email notification, or even an Apex action (yeah, it’s that cool). Set it to Active, click Save, and sit back while only the important numbers come to you when you need them most! For more info, check out the release notes here!

Magpie

What the heck is Chatter anyway!? I get this question all the time. As I’ve said before, I tend to refer to Chatter as Facebook meets Twitter meets Salesforce. Chatter is the social environment where your team gathers to collaborate from across the office and around the world, and if you’re a social media junkie (or take a little time to learn the basics), it’s easy and intuitive. Unless you need to post a bunch of pictures at once – then you need to sit there and post them one at a time. Wouldn’t it be great if posting pictures in Chatter was as quick and easy as Facebook? Well, the free Magpie app makes it that simple!

Magpie allows you to create albums and upload images, photos, screenshots to them. The album can then be shared to your profile easily.
